PRESS RELEASE
2011-05-05 Burundi : Truth and justice for King N’Tare V.
On April 29, 1972, Radio Nationale du Burundi (RNB Broadcasting) announced that King Charles V N'tare Ndiyeze was shot during his escape from the palace trying to reach his supporters. The truth is quite different. Taken out from his room at the Royal Palace where he was assigned to, the former ruler was cowardly executed by a firing squad. His body was pierced by three bayonets and a military put up three bullets in his head whose symbolically reproducing the disposal of stars on the flag of Burundi. His body was then thrown in a common grave. Mwami N’tare V was 25 years old.
This assassination, which have never been investigated by the Justice of Burundi, will be the excuse for one of the biggest genocides in the African Great Lakes. Between 100,000 and 300,000 Tutsis and Hutus were murdered in the name of ethnic cleansing.
On the occasion of the commemoration of 39th anniversary of King's death, the International Monarchist conference (IMC) joins Parliamentary Monarchist Party- Abagenderabanga, the Royal Family of Burundi and the Association of Ishaka Fraternity so that the truth be finally made in order that the circumstances of the killing be known at least. A complain has been filed to the Attorney General of the Republic, which is the judicial competent authority of the Republic, in order that a trial of King N'tare V’ s murderers be established but Attorney General has not yet responded to this request.
The International Monarchist Conference on behalf of national reconciliation, requires that the body of the deceased Mwami N'tare V be found, exhumed and receives all funeral official honors due to his rank. Frédéric de Natal
